  • Out & About Project 2017

    21st March 2017

    A group of students had the opportunity to take part in the 5 week Out & About Project in conjunction with The Hepworth Wakefield.

    They visited Brimham Rocks, Nostell Priory, The Hepworth Wakefield & Yorkshire Sculpture Park exploring the landscapes and enjoying time working together in some of the most beautiful places that are on our doorstep.

    The students have created sculptures and art work and attended a final celebration event at the Hepworth along with other local schools.

    Some of our year 7 and 8 students are at Huddersfield today competing in the West Yorkshire School Games Finals. All girls are representing not only De Lacy but also Wakefield in the trampolining.

    Lauren Green who is a Trampoline Leader from Year 10 will be coaching the teams along with Miss Anfield.

  • Science Week

    This week is British Science week. We are asking our year 7 and 8 students to take part in a homework competition to create a poster about change.

    Winners will be announced next week.

    De Lacy students took part in the Yorkshire Schools Rowing Championships today with some fantastic results

    Year 11 girls - Morgan Wilson 4th

    Year 10 girls -  Ellie Ramskill 6th

    Year10 boys -  Ryan Wood 5th

    Year 9 girls - Megan Sharp 8th

    Year 9 boys -  Alex Birkitt 9th

    Year 8 girls - Libby Hall 3rd BRONZE medal

    Year 7 girls - Stephanie Spence Hirst 2nd= JOINT SILVER Medal

    Some of our Year 7 Boys took part in the Sky Sports Living for Sport Programme with England Badminton star Jenny Wallwork. Out of 18 boys who started the project, 13 have now completed it.The programme concentrated on improving areas around school,whilst using sport as the catalyst.

    Mr Lewis from Maths commented that Noah Carpenter had improved in Maths during the programme - 'Excellent progress and fantastic effort in all topics covered. Big improvement!'

  • Wakefield Cathedral Shrove Tuesday Event

    Wakefield Cathedral have launched the Giving Campaign which coincides with Pancake Day and the season of Lent.  Traditionally Lent would be a period of fasting or giving something up – they are asking that people give something instead. Local foodbanks have provided a shopping list of the items that they regularly give out:-

    Long-life milk

    Tins of meat, fish, fruit & vegetables

    Instant mashed potato & soup

    Tins of soup, tinned meals

    Tea bags & coffee

  • Miss Anfield's visit to Kenya

    21st February 2017

    On Miss Anfield's annual trip to Africa, she was visiting a village called Maungu in Tsavo East National Park, Kenya. Prior to the visit, the chief villagers requested donation of babies' clothes and bras for the local people and sports equipment for schools.

    Miss Anfield approached Minsthorpe and Castleford Academies to support the trip as well as De Lacy. The three schools all gathered together old sports equipment from their PE departments. This totalled over 40kg of balls, nets, cones and bibs for three

  • Safer Internet Day

    Safer Internet Day 2017 is being celebrated globally today, Tuesday 7th February, with the theme 'Be the change: unite for a better internet'. 

    We have copies of a free magazine in school called “Digital Parenting”. Copies are available for all parents to collect or alternatively can be sent out in the post. If you would like a copy, please contact reception and this can be arranged.

    Ellis Skelcher came first in speed bounce.

    Billy Nadin & Kaden Baker came first in the 2 lap sprint.

    Students visited Brimham Rocks yesterday and experienced the amazing rock formations and fantastic heather moorland. Over the next few weeks they will be visiting more National Trust sites, watch this space for more news and pictures.
