Geography teaches us to make sense of the world around us.  The De Lacy geography curriculum has been designed to enable pupils to become successful global citizens, finding out about the world and its people, deepening their understanding of a range of places, giving them the intention to travel to explore the world further and become empowered to justify their own opinions. 

Pupils will develop an excellent knowledge of where places are and what they are like. They will develop an understanding of physical and human environments and processes. Geography offers the opportunity to understand the diverse character of places and landscapes at different scales; how places are interconnected and study economic and environmental challenges such as sustainability, development and climate change. Pupils will develop a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing a diverse range of places and people, now and in the future. 

The Geography curriculum will enrich pupil learning through the exploration of a range of local and international case studies in both key stages.  Pupils will have an extensive core of geographical knowledge and vocabulary, so that they are confident and comfortable using academic language in every context that requires it throughout their education and beyond. Pupils will be encouraged to ask questions, develop critical thinking skills, and develop their map and graphical skills.  They will be able to carry out increasingly complex, independent geographical enquiries, make sense of geographical data, and justify their own view in reaching conclusions.  

Geography bridges the curriculum from the physical process in Science, creativity in English to the quantitative skills of Mathematics. Pupils are able to use these connections to excel in the wider world.
