Year 11 Maths

At De Lacy Academy, students follow the Edexcel GCSE (9–1) specification in Mathematics. This is a tiered qualification with two tiers of entry: Foundation (grades 1 to 5) and Higher (grades 4 to 9). The qualification is assessed by three equally-weighted, externally-examined papers, each being 1 hour and 30 minutes duration. Paper 1 is a non-calculator assessment and a calculator is allowed for Paper 2 and Paper 3.
The assessments will cover the following content headings:1 Number2 Algebra3 Ratio, proportion and rates of change4 Geometry and measures5 Probability6 Statistics

The aims and objectives of the course are to enable students to:● develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methodsand concepts● acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems● reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions● comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a varietyof forms appropriate to the information and context.

GCSE Mathematics is a requirement for progression to a wide range of courses and students are expected to continue with their study of GCSE Mathematics after the age of 16 if they have not achieved the qualification at Key Stage 4.
