Y8 Cooking and Nutrition

Our Year 8 Curriculum Intent

Our Cooking and Nutrition programme is part of the Technology Carousel where students will be able to experience a wide range of technologies here at De Lacy. We have excellent catering facilities for students to learn the practical and theoretical skills needed to make healthy and informed food choices.

Over the 10-week block of catering, students will be able:

  • To enjoy learning in a practical manner having experienced the best possible engaging and challenging lessons which foster and promote interests for later life,
  • To support the development of good health and well-being of our students;
  • To learn the basics of nutrition and a healthy balanced diet, understand where the food we eat comes from and be able to make informed healthy choices.

Our Year 8 Curriculum Content

The image below explains what our Year 8 students will be learning throughout the year. To view this in more detail, please click the Year 8 Curriculum Content document below.  To ensure our curriculum is impactful, all our curriculum content is related to our 6 Key Themes.

Cultural Capital

As part of our curriculum, we ensure that we provide our students the opportunities to broaden their learning through various subject based cultural opportunities.  These vary for each subject but provide an array of activities for both students and families to engage with. These are divided into half term learning opportunities and can be found in the documents below.
